Would Jake and Brett have been together if Jake didn't suffer the war scar?

As the title said, would Jake and Brett got together if Jake didn't suffer from his war scar? One could argue that if Jake was able to function in moments of intimacy, Brett and Jake would have hit it off well. It is mentioned in the passage that they have tried it before, but it fell apart because Jake and Brett couldn't relieve each other's urges. In theory, if this was their only problem, Jake would able to have a relationship with Brett if he didn't suffer a war injury. I argue otherwise. Clarissa doesn't tell herself that she no longer "loves" Sally, unlike Peter, but Clarissa does seem to be obsessed with the memory of the former Sally. Clarissa spent countless days thinking about how wonderful Sally was. I think ...
